Ledger® Live: Desktop | Getting Started™ with Ledger®

Welcome to your journey with Ledger®. Ledger® Live for Desktop is the official application to manage your Ledger hardware wallet. Whether you are new to crypto or a long-time holder, this guide will help you set up, navigate, and use Ledger® Live securely and confidently.

What is Ledger® Live?

Ledger® Live is a free software that enables you to interact with your Ledger device, install apps, check your balances, and manage your crypto assets. Available for Windows, macOS, and Linux, it provides a seamless and secure user experience.

System Requirements

Before installing Ledger® Live on your desktop, make sure your system meets the minimum requirements:

  • Operating System: Windows 10+, macOS 10.14+, Linux Ubuntu 20.04+.
  • USB Port: Required for connecting Ledger Nano S or X.
  • Internet: Stable connection recommended for synchronization.

How to Download and Install

To download Ledger® Live Desktop:

  • Visit the official site: www.ledger.com/ledger-live.
  • Choose your platform (Windows, macOS, or Linux).
  • Download the installation file and run the setup.
  • Follow on-screen instructions to complete installation.
Important: Only download Ledger® Live from the official Ledger website. Avoid third-party sources to protect against malware and phishing scams.

Initial Setup

Once installed, launch Ledger® Live and follow these steps:

  • Choose "Get Started".
  • Connect your Ledger device via USB.
  • Confirm the connection on your device by entering your PIN code.
  • Follow the guided setup to create or restore a wallet using your 24-word recovery phrase.

Never share your recovery phrase. Ledger will never ask for it. If anyone asks for it, it's a scam.

Installing Crypto Apps

Once your device is connected and initialized:

  • Open the "Manager" tab in Ledger Live.
  • Allow the Ledger Manager access on your device.
  • Select and install apps for the cryptocurrencies you want to manage (e.g., Bitcoin, Ethereum).

Adding Accounts

After installing crypto apps, you can add accounts:

  • Click "Accounts" > "Add Account".
  • Select a crypto (e.g., Ethereum) and click "Continue".
  • Ledger Live will sync with your device and fetch addresses.
  • Name your account and finish the setup.

Sending and Receiving Crypto

To receive funds:

  • Select an account and click "Receive".
  • Verify the address on your device screen before sharing it.

To send funds:

  • Select an account, click "Send", and input the destination address.
  • Confirm the transaction details on your Ledger device.

Keeping Your Ledger® Live Secure

  • Update Ledger® Live and your device firmware regularly.
  • Enable a device PIN and never share it.
  • Back up your recovery phrase and store it offline in a secure place.
  • Avoid phishing: bookmark ledger.com and verify website URLs.

Backups and Recovery

Your wallet is secured by your 24-word recovery phrase. In case your Ledger device is lost or damaged, you can restore access by entering this phrase into a new Ledger device. If you lose your recovery phrase, your crypto assets may be lost forever.
